About organization

The Maine State Museum Education Division strives to help visitors of all ages connect their unique experiences to Maine’s rich natural and cultural heritage as embodied by the museum’s collections and exhibits. Drawing from a variety of communication tools and learning strategies, the division develops and delivers dynamic public programs, fosters in-depth dialogues, and promotes a spirit of inquiry and critical thinking.

Organization programming strengths

19th-century Maine industry, lobstering (history and current sustainable practices,) natural history, Malaga Island, slavery and Maine, journey to statehood and creating a Maine Identity; primary source workshops, Maine’s WWII German POW Camps, Native American Boarding Schools, Maine Pandemics
